Brothers and sisters in Yahushua,

Walking in the Light: The Strength of Chesed (Loving-kindness)

Introduction

The Paleo-Messianic faith is a journey of action, guided by the covenant YHVH (יהוה) made with our forefathers. We’ve previously explored the power of Emunah (אמונה), and today, we’ll expand on the concept of Chesed (חסד), a divine attribute that we’re called to emulate.

Understanding Chesed

Chesed, often translated as loving-kindness or steadfast love, is a fundamental attribute of YHVH. In Tehillim (Psalms) 136:1, we read, “Give thanks to YHVH, for he is good, for his Chesed continues forever.” This verse not only praises YHVH for His goodness but also acknowledges the eternal nature of His Chesed.

Chesed in the Covenant

Chesed is integral to the covenant. In Bereshit (Genesis) 24:27, Avraham’s servant exclaims, “Blessed be YHVH, the Elohim of my master Avraham, who has not abandoned his Chesed and truth toward my master.” This verse highlights how Chesed is a manifestation of YHVH’s faithfulness to His covenant.

Living Out Chesed

Living out Chesed means embodying YHVH’s love and faithfulness in our interactions with others. In Mishlei (Proverbs) 14:21, we are taught, “He who despises his neighbor sins, but happy is he who shows Chesed to the poor.” This verse calls us to extend Chesed to those in need, reflecting YHVH’s compassion.

Chesed and Forgiveness

Chesed is also closely linked with forgiveness. In Yonah (Jonah) 4:2, Yonah laments, “I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate Elohim, slow to anger and abundant in Chesed, and one who relents concerning calamity.” Here, YHVH’s Chesed is associated with His willingness to forgive and withhold punishment.

Conclusion

As we continue our journey in the Paleo-Messianic faith, let us strive to live out the Chesed of YHVH in our daily lives. In doing so, we not only honor Elohim but also become a light to those around us, drawing them closer to the love and faithfulness of YHVH.

May this exploration of Chesed enrich your understanding of the covenant and inspire you to walk in the light of YHVH’s love and faithfulness.
